![]() ![]() One should simply use the standard abbreviation of the version of the Bible (e.g. The Student Supplement to the SBL Handbook of Style published by the Society of Biblical Literature states that for modern editions of the Bible, publishers information is not required in a citation. The Christian Writer's Manual of Style, however, recommends using Arabic numerals for numbered books, as in "2 Corinthians" rather than "II Corinthians". For example, Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians may be written as "I Corinthians", using the Roman numeral "I" rather than the Arabic numeral "1". Roman numerals are often used for the numbered books of the Bible. Some of these abbreviation schemes are standardized. Įlectronic editions of Bibles use internal abbreviations. There are two commonly accepted styles for abbreviating the book names, one used in general books and one used in scholarly works. Hudson observes, however, that for scholarly or reference works that contain a large number of citations in running text, abbreviations may be used simply to reduce the length of the prose, and that a similar exception can be made for cases where a large number of citations are used in parentheses. Instead, the full name should be spelled out. Ībbreviations should not be used, according to The Christian Writer's Manual of Style, when the citation is in running text. Abbreviations may be used when the citation is a reference that follows a block quotation of text. Most Bibles give preferred abbreviation guides in their tables of contents, or at the front of the book. The names of the books of the Bible can be abbreviated. John 16:33 NASB Abbreviating book names In the world you have tribulation, but take courage I have overcome the world. ( John 16:33 NASB) These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. For example: These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. The Christian Writer's Manual of Style also states that a citation that follows a block quotation of text may either be in parentheses flush against the text, or right-aligned following an em-dash on a new line. For example: Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him! ( John 19:15). The full-stop at the end of the surrounding sentence belongs outside of the parentheses that surround the citation. When citations are used in run-in quotations, they should not, according to The Christian Writer's Manual of Style, contain the punctuation either from the quotation itself (such as a terminating exclamation mark or question mark) or from the surrounding prose. Additionally, the Bible is not listed in the references at the end of the document and the edition of the Bible is required when citing inside parentheses. For example, (The beginning of Genesis recounts the creation of our universe.) When referring directly to a particular passage, the abbreviated book name, chapter number, a colon, and verse number must be provided. Ĭitations in Turabian style requires that when referring to books or chapters, do not italicize or underline them. In APA style, the Bible is not listed in the references at the end of the document. Subsequent citations do not require the translation unless that changes. Translation names should not be abbreviated (e.g., write out King James Version instead of using KJV). For example, ( John 3:16, New International Version). The MLA style is similar, but replaces the colon with a period.Ĭitations in the APA style add the translation of the Bible after the verse. This format is the one accepted by the Chicago Manual of Style to cite scriptural standard works. The range delimiter is an en-dash, and there are no spaces on either side of it. Or, stated more formally, Book chapter for a chapter ( John 3) Book chapter 1–chapter 2 for a range of chapters ( John 1–3) book chapter:verse for a single verse ( John 3:16) book chapter:verse 1–verse 2 for a range of verses ( John 3:16–17) book chapter:verse 1,verse 2 for multiple disjoint verses ( John 6:14, 44). ![]() ![]() As a result of the formation of two bonds, we will have a double bond structure. Step 4: The octet fulfilment idea is complete. Therefore, we can take the electrons from the bottom and position them in the middle between the two C atoms. However, the second carbon atom in the centre lacks two electrons. Here, we can observe that the octet of one carbon atom is complete (the Octet rule has been discussed before). Step 3: Now that the atoms have been represented by their symbols, let’s represent the valence electrons with dots. Hydrogen atoms will occupy the outermost locations. ![]() Step 2: Having determined the total valence number, we can now determine which atom is the least electronegative.įor hydrocarbons, the carbon will always be placed in the centre. ![]() The number of valence electrons in a single C2H4 molecule. In the case of carbon, each valence electron has four electrons. Hydrogen is the first element in the periodic table hence, it possesses one valence electron. Step 1: Count the number of atoms in an ethylene molecule. Obtaining the Lewis Structure of any molecule is simple if specific protocols are followed. This is referred to as the octet rule or octet completion. In order to achieve the same valency of eight, the atoms of the major groups tend to acquire extra electrons. Observing the final group reveals that all elements are inert gases with eight electrons in their valence shells (except He which has two). The number of an atom’s valence electrons is comparable to its valency, which in turn defines the atom’s combining capability. The outermost shell is known as the valence shell, and its electrons are known as valence electrons. The nucleus of an atom is around by negatively charged electrons, which are present at various levels or shells. The electron dot structure, also known as the Lewis Structure, is a diagrammatic representation of a molecule that includes the constituent atoms and valence shell electrons.īefore we dive in, we’d like to expose you to (or, if you’re already familiar, refresh you on) some incredibly key ideas that will make your knowledge of ethylene bonding much easier! Valence electrons Let’s proceed and discuss this systematically. The nature of this carbon-hydrogen bond is covalent. To gain a thorough understanding of ethylene, it is sufficient to first comprehend its bonding characteristics. We obtain molecular compounds based on the nature of atoms and their propensity to attract or repulsion another atom of the same or a different type.Īnd this process of two or more atoms approaching one another and deciding to remain together is known as chemical bonding. Now, atoms do not typically exist in a solitary state everything we observe around us is primarily composed of atoms that have merged to form molecules. How is this entire cosmos composed of several atoms? Have you ever pondered the universe’s singularity and immense variety? These hydrocarbons create double and triple bonds and are referred to as alkenes and alkynes, respectively. ![]() Saturated hydrocarbons have the structure H-(CH2)n and are also known as acyclic straight-chain alkanes. Straight-chain hydrocarbons are the most basic and easiest to interpret group. There are various types of hydrocarbons in organic chemistry, including straight-chain, cyclic, and even branched hydrocarbons. Chemical Interactions in HydrocarbonsĬarbon has a covalent character when it comes to forming bonds with hydrogen, which results in the development of various types of hydrocarbons.įrom the simplest, such as methane and benzene, to the more complex, such as natural rubber, we encounter several HCs in our daily lives. Therefore, it is essential that we gain a thorough understanding of C2H4 to better comprehend the nature of straight-chain hydrocarbons. We have encountered this chemical whenever we have read about organic chemistry, haven’t we? This article will discuss ethylene, one of the most prevalent and commonly utilised hydrocarbons (C2H4).ĭo you realise this substance is even lighter than air?Ĭ2H4 is a simple straight-chain hydrocarbon with a sweet odour and a colourless appearance. Occasionally, it also produces compounds with additional elements, such as sulphur, nitrogen, etc.Įven though these are among of the simplest organic compounds we might encounter, their physical and chemical properties vary considerably. Additionally, they can be found in synthetic polymers and other man-made plastics.Īs the name suggests, they are organic in origin and composed of only carbon and hydrogen. The majority of hydrocarbons are found naturally in these fossil fuels, be they petroleum, crude oil, or natural gas. Hydrocarbons are an indispensable and inseparable component of chemistry. ![]() ![]() ![]() Other minimalists have small spaces that may not fit a traditional Christmas tree or don’t have the room (or desire) to store a large tree the rest of the year. In short, yes. The goal of mechanical broadheads is to provide a larger cutting diameter than is feasible with fixed blade broadheads while being more aerodynamic and accurate. These broadheads are simple to work with, safe to handle, and thus far in my experience, 100% reliable. One some models the blades are held in place by a collar, other models have no collar, more on that later. The scripture tells us exactly what those benefits are. Our waiting experiences show the world the benefits that come from waiting upon the Lord. We should be examples of what it looks like to wait. Our life story should be as worthy of glorifying God during the in-between periods as it is on the mountain tops. We only need to trust them and believe that there are benefits to waiting on the Lord. His timing is perfect because he is everywhere and all knowing! When it is hard to be patient and wait we can start falling back into old habits. When we wait, it can be so easy to grow weary, to become lax in our watching and waiting. The mental picture they give of the message God is trying to share with us is always so perfect. I love scriptures that remind us of planting and harvest. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. We can find peace in the pauses of God’s plan, knowing that if he is waiting to fulfill the promise his mercy is present in our lives as he waits for our maturity, all for our salvation. He will not give us anything, that will cause us to stumble.
